About Me

I grew up and raised my children in Southern New England and exposed the three of us to hiking, museums, pow-wows, trail running, and camping. Now my children are heading off on their own adventures; I'm heading off on mine. I had worked fourteen years as a veterinary technician, four of those years in emergency and ophthalmology. Though I found working with animals fulfilling, I felt I needed to find a new purpose in my life. So in 2010, I graduated magna cum laude from Bay Path College in Longmeadow, Massachusetts, with a BA in Liberal Studies. This satisfied one of the requirements to become a Peace Corps Volunteer.

UPDATE 2021: Since my service ended, I earned my master's degree in environmental studies in sustainable development and climate change. Because of my interest in trees, I have become an ISA-certified arborist. I am working toward combining my degree with arboriculture to help with climate change resilience.

I am also a competitive snowshoe racer and hold the 2013 Women's Connecticut State Snowshoe Championship title. In addition, I compete in several trail running races throughout New England and have completed one trail marathon and a 50k ultra marathon.

My main passion is nature. I have taught people about natural and cultural history for over twenty years. I love to teach, and I am excited to use my teaching experience to help people understand their environment while serving in the Peace Corps.
